IDHHC: BEI Rater Training Announcement, June 18-19
ANNOUNCEMENT The Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission (IDHHC) and the Texas Commission for the Deaf (TCDHH) are pleased to announce an agreement to provide the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) exam which is a certification test for the evaluation of Interpreting skills. The BEI exam will be implemented in Illinois and hereafter be known in Illinois as the Illinois BEI exam. The next step in this process will be to host rater trainings. IDHHC will be hosting the rater training on June 18-19, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the James R. Thompson Center in downtown Chicago. If you are interested in becoming an Illinois BEI Rater and meet the following criteria:1) BA Degree or higher,2) Possess a minimum of 10 years interpreting experience3) Be knowledgeable of linguistics, sign language theory, and interpreting4) Able to effectively work in a team5) INTERPRETERS MUST hold certification from any of the following:a. Texas BEI Certification III, IV, V, Advanced or Masterb. RID CI/CTc. NIC Advancedd.
